Deacon's Ushering Procedures and Checklist
Summer 8:00 AM Service
Service Setup
1. Arrive no later than 7:30AM. Put on your uniform (deacon button).
2. Inspect walkways to make sure they are clear and not hazardous.
3. Unlock the parking lot, sanctuary, and sanctuary side doors. Turn on hallway lights as necessary.
4. Turn on sanctuary lights, open shutters, windows, and storms as appropriate.
5. Put out the three silver pieces on the communion table.
6. Make sure Friendship pads with sharpened pencils are in the pews.
7. Get the 9:30 service bulletins from the office (Some people ask for them after the service). Place bulletins on rear bench.
8. Get order-of-worship sheets from the deacon's closet.
9. Set up offering plate on flower stand outside side sanctuary door in hallway (People will be invited to place offerings in the plate when leaving after the service).
10. Review building evacuation responsibilities (Refer to Fire Evacuation Procedure).
11. Greet congregants as they arrive, pass out worship sheets, and assist with seating as required.
Service Begins
12. Ring the bell three times after the prelude is completed.
13. During the service count all in attendance including children, ministers, and deacons.
After Service
14. Collect worship sheets. Place back in deacon's closet.
15. Take offering to the office.
16. TAKE CARE OF THE OFFERING. Separate checks, envelopes and cash. Count the cash; fill out both halves of the cash sheet (if there is no cash enter $0), sign, date, and tear in half. Put one half in the offering bag along with the offering, the other in the Finance Committee chair's box. Deposit offering bag in safe. Record attendance on the sheet on the desk. Return offering plate to rear bench for the 9:30 service.
17. Put flower stand away.
